Robotics: Speciality trained and
accredited as one of the first and pioneering
general surgeons in the area of "ROBOTICS"
and robotically assisted surgery. The "DaVinci"
robot is the latest in robotic technology
helping advance the world in the arena of
surgical care.
SILS: Single Incision Laparoscopic
Surgery. Dr. Serrano is the first
surgeon in the valley to utilize this highly
advanced form of laparoscopic surgery. It
can be used for gallbladder, appendix and other
types of laparoscopic surgery.
*Dr. Serrano also employs "UMI" or Ultra
Minimally Invasive laparoscopic surgery for
gallbladder surgery. This all means you
walk away with only "one" visible
micro-incision as apposed to the routine four
incisions with traditional laparoscopic surgery.
Laparoscopy
:Minimally invasive surgery performed via micro
incisions for various surgical dilemmas. Dr.
Serrano can perform the following surgeries
larascopically:
• **Colectomy: Removal of a
segment of the large intestine for adenoma,
diverticulitis, or tumor
• **Ventral Herniorrhaphy:
Surgery for the repair of defects in the
anterior abdominal wall using mesh
• Splenectomy: Removal of the
spleen for all indications
• Nissen Fundoplication: Repair
of hiatal hernias for symptomatic reflux,
hoarseness, or recurrent aspirations and
pneumonia
• Inguinal Herniorrhaphy:
Repair of groin defect using mesh
• Cholecystectomy: Removal of
the gallbladder for stones or dysfunction of the
gallbladder
• Appendectomy: Removal of the
appendix for disease and/or inflammation
• Adhesiolysis: Cutting down of
internal scar tissue for bowel obstruction or
chronic abdominal/pelvic pain
Colonoscopy: Visualization of the
large intestine with videoscope for
surveillance/diagnosis or treatment
Hemorroidectomy: Removal of
varicosed venules from the anus using advanced
PPH system or harmonic scalpel
Endocrine:
• Thryoidectomy or Parathyroidectomy:
Minimally invasive removal of
Thyroid/Parathyroid for tumors/nodules/cysts or
gland hyperactivity
• Dr. Serrano is trained in and uses the NIMS
monitor (nerve stimulator). NIMS assists in
locating the recurrent laryngeal nerves and
helps prevent their injury.
Peripheral Vascular:
• Amputations: Removal of diseased lower limbs
above or below the knee
• Access/Central venous catheters of all types
• Radiofrequency Endovenous Ablation – treatment
of varicose veins using radio-frequency energy
Integument (skin):
• Melanoma – Excisional surgery
with or without skin grafts and sentinel node
• Excisional Biopses of all
types
• Carpal tunnel and
Ganglion cysts surgery
• Pilonidal Cystectomy –
Excisional surgery for infected or inflamed
tailbone cyst
Breast:
• Stereotactic Mammotome –
Micropuncture surgery for the biopsy of breast
lesion seen on mammogram
• Mammosite Insertion –
Treatment with breast quadrantectomy or breast
conservation surgery
• Modified Radical Mastectomy –
Breast removal for advanced breast disease.
Reconstruction (done by plastic surgeon at same
surgery)
Stomach:
• Gastrectomy – removal of
sections or whole stomach for disease/tumor
• Feeding tubes – insertion for
malnutrition or failure to thrive
Genital:
• Circumcision and Vasectomy
Respiratory:
• Tracheostomy – Surgery for
ventilator-dependent patients, or those
experiencing respiratory failure
